Renault tractors, buses and passenger cars: manufacturers of model cars have a real drive to come up with new vehicles. Once again, these pages are too limited to mention all the news.
OTTO remains a manufacturer to keep an eye on. It started with the enthusiasm of collectors themselves, making their own models; eventually resulting in new Renault models every month now. Far left the new Mégane R.S. in Jaune Sirius and 1:18-scale. Norev made a similar version in the same scale. The 5 Turbo, developed in 1981 for IMSA racing in the USA is an unusual choice for a model. But OTTO also comes up with the Clio 16, the concept car with 2-litre turbocharged engine.
On the top of this page no less than three new Renault tractors that came out recently. Their sources are various. The Renault 551S by FarmToys is on the foreground. This was based on the existing Universal Hobbies model. The limited series white 110.14 Tracfor is a Replicagri creation of the well-known TS/TX/TZ theme. You can find the beautiful Renault Nectra in one box with the D30 to celebrate 100 years of Renault tractors.
Diversity
Most collectors will have a Renault 10 in their showcases. But model manufacturers seemed to concentrate on the first series version with round headlights mostly. The number of models with square units was limited, but OTTO now comes with this red example. It only misses the correct wheel covers, as the ones on it now belong to the earlier type cars.
The 1:24 scale newsstand series come up with Renault regularly, like this blue Frégate Grand Pavois now, showing all its lavishness very well. The same Auto Vintage-series now also offers a blue Alpine A310 four-cylinder as well as a bumperless 12 Gordini.
Years ago Norev launched a SAVIEM S53M touring car, which was available in several colours. The same idea now goes for the SAVIEM S105. This is the city bus variant. The manufacturer made a completely new mould in order to make this model.
Funny Fours
The Renault 4 newsstand series continues to grow also. We show you three exceptional versions here. The orange car on the left is a modern look at what the R4 could look like in 2011. The idea originally came from the computer of David Obendorfer but it never reached production. The tiny little R4 was a shortened version by Bertin, which came out as a city car in 1969. Not easy to gain access to the interior through those miniature doors.
The green Renault Mini 4S of 1970 originates from Uruguay. It was a locally modified version by a dealer who wanted to bypass import taxes. Also new in this series are the R4 Shopping, a 1982 limited edition made in Belgium, the 4F4 of Les Triplettes de Bonneville and a 4F4 with raised roof that served as a Renault service van.
Baccara
Solido festoons with its Renault 4 GTL in 1:18 scale. Apart from a variety of colours, this model is available in different governmental guises, too. This is a red fire brigade version, which comes with the right lettering and blue flashing lights on its roof. Solido also launches a Fuego GTX in 1:43 scale, but this one comes in fact from the same mould, which Ixo used. More remarkable perhaps, is the Renault 21 Baccara, the most lavishly equipped version in this series. From the outside it’s the wheels that catch the eye. Odeon (Momaco) is the manufacturer, which again used an existing Ixo to build it. There is a silver grey as well as a red metallic version.
But the number one new OTTO model is a bright red Renault 18 Break Turbo in Phase II guise. It is exactly how the car could be seen in the brochure at the time. That means it is equipped with chrome roof rails, multi-spoke alloys and large Turbo-lettering at the bottom of the doors. It’s a real rarity and a great model car to loose oneself for a moment.
