Twingo indicates time

In this column we take a look at unusual Renault products.

Car designers are a source of good ideas that often go beyond drawing a new model. They enjoy working on other products that might be related to a car. Some of these end up in the accessories range, such as clothing and even watches.
This watch was released by Renault to coincide with the launch of the Twingo and was designed by Gérard Gauvry, who also designed the final interior of the Twingo. Two options were developed for the popular car and his design was chosen to go into production.
At Renault's request, he also designed this watch, which comes in a matching box. The blue strap bears the name Twingo and the button used to set the time is mint green. The dial is made up of several coloured discs that rotate on top of each other. Reading the correct time quickly takes some practice. It also takes patience to find a watch like this after 30 years. Originals are hard to find anyway, and expensive because a large group of enthusiasts are looking for them at the same time. Think, for example, of the colourful spheres used as key rings on the first Twingo.
