Renault Emblème

Shows the way

For Renault, the North of France is the region where all electric models are built. All activities related to the EV programme fall under the Ampère unit. At the factory, Luca de Meo introduced us to Emblème.

Next step

Now that Renault is on track with no less than five electric cars, it is time to show the world the next step. The Emblème, a five-door hatchback, incorporates all these next steps. These include the use of hydrogen, the extensive use of electronics and the improvement of the car's efficiency, with the main aim of reducing the impact on the environment.

Renault's development teams are working on the 2028 car. The technologies that will appear in showrooms are now being presented at the Emblème.

Affordable

Luca de Meo: "Here in Douai, Renault is showing that it is possible to build cars in France that are affordable and make consumers happy for several reasons. In the European car industry today, the cost of energy is higher than the cost of labour. If you have affordable energy, as we do here in France, you can compete well. In addition, we know better than anyone else what the European consumer wants, and all this ensures that we can deliver attractive small cars with electric drive."

CO2-neutral factories

Renault's development teams are working on the 2028 car. The technologies that will appear in showrooms are now being presented at the Emblème. Producing cars in CO2-neutral factories and making the electric powertrain as efficient as possible will create new Renaults with minimal environmental impact. Work is underway on lighter cars and optimised aerodynamics. The resulting gains in energy consumption can be translated into smaller and therefore lighter batteries.

New battery plant

In addition to the assembly plant, a completely new battery plant is being prepared in Douai, which will produce batteries for the Renault 4 and 5 E-Tec electric from March 2025. Batteries that are state of the art. But the plant is also designed to be able to produce improved batteries or completely new technologies in the future.

After the presentation at the Paris Motor Show, Renault also showed the interior of the Emblème.  The dashboard consists of a screen covering almost the entire width of the car. The driver can place all the desired functions on it by simply swiping from the central screen. There is already a test car with all these technologies under the skin of a Talisman.
