Renault Laguna 1.9 dCi 2000

Second generation

Twenty-three years have passed since Renault introduced the second  generation of the Laguna. This model was marketed simultaneously as a  five-door hatchback and a spacious Grand Tour. The distribution of sales between these two body styles varied significantly by market. For  instance, in the Netherlands, approximately 60-70 percent of buyers  opted for the Grand Tour, while in France, the ratio was the opposite.

Resounding success

The five-door model's profile prominently exhibits design elements reminiscent of the stunning Initiale concept car, particularly in the roofline and the shape of the C-pillar. The Laguna II's design proved to be a resounding success, which is no surprise considering it was warmly embraced by both private individuals and business drivers.

Euro NCAP

In addition to its appealing design, the Laguna II boasted a high level of safety. It was the very first car to achieve a five-star rating according to Euro NCAP's then-current standards. This achievement was attributed to its robust body structure, complemented by the presence of six airbags and numerous other safety features. These photos, taken during the press presentation at the Airbus site in November 2000, illustrate how timeless the Laguna II's body shape was even at that time."
