FASA-Renault built 48,088 examples of the Renault 6 with 845cc engine (R1182) between 1969 and 1971. That was succeeded by the R6 with the 956 cc Cléon engine (R1183) of which 114,992 units left the factory through 1975.
The best-selling version was the Renault 6 TL (R1185), which was fitted with the 1,037 cc Cléon engine known from the Renault 7. This car was on the delivery programme between 1975 and 1980. At the last change of guard, the model got the familiar 1,108 cc power unit and changed its name to Renault 6 GTL (R118743). This version remained available from 1980 until 7 April 1986. A further 53,002 units were assembled during that period. That gives a total production of 338,557 units in a whopping 17 years.
This example is a 1978 Renault 6 TL that has been owned by Renault Classic for some time. The car is not only painted in a typical Spanish colour green, but also has an interior where the upholstery, door panels and even the carpets are green. The stitching makes the furniture look very similar to that of the 4 GTL. Moreover, the steering wheel comes from the Renault 14, just like the second version of the Renault 7.
The history of this example is simple and complete. The car was bought new by Pilar Romero Moya (born 17 February 1940) from Barcelona, a lady with a disability given the minor adjustments made to the controls. Not only are the car papers proving this still present, her driving licence is also part of the documents that came with the car when it was sold. The car has some minuscule use dents on the outside, but is otherwise in excellent, original condition in which a Renault 6 is hardly found even in Spain anymore.
Like every FASA-Renault, this Renault 6 has numerous specific elements. For instance, the city lights with indicators are placed at the bottom of the bumper. Front and rear bumper have black bumpers. The strip on the tailgate continues around the tail lights. The one on the sill is specific. The wheel covers correspond to the second type of Renault 7.
