Renault 9 Avenue

Bon chic

The Renault 9 did not only have a European career, but also managed to attract quite a few Americans. The American Renault Alliance was again the inspiration for the 9 Avenue.

In the eighties, Renault always knew how to make something special out of action models. This was also the case with the 9 Avenue, which was launched at the end of 1983 (model year 1984). Two paintwork colours were available for this model, dark blue or dark red, both metallic shades.

The GTL version with the 60 hp 1.4 litre engine, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, gave a top speed of 153 km/h.

ELEGANT FONT

It is mainly the equipment details that made the Renault 9 an Avenue. The alloy wheels were the same as those on the 9 GTS, but the white edged tyres made them seem American. The white striping on the underside of the body and on the waistline just above the door handles was a perfect match. At the front doors, the name Avenue was written in an elegant font. The strips in the bumpers were also white. The front bumper had been copied from the 9 GTS, including the fog lights. On the upper edge of the boot lid, the Renault 9 GTL nameplate was on the familiar spot on the left, while on the far right it featured the same Avenue nameplate as on the flanks.

The standard equipment included a Philips radio/cassette player, of course with stereo sound, which was already common in the mid-1980s!

The front and rear seats were upholstered, including the sides, in a blue/grey ribbed velour, similar in fact as the seats from the TSE. The three accent lines in the seat and backrest were white to match the details on the exterior. The steering wheel, covered with leather, was of the same type as in the Renault 9 GTS.  The standard equipment included a Philips radio/cassette player, of course with stereo sound, which was already common in the mid-1980s!
