The merger of the SAVIEM and Berliet truck brands to form Renault Véhicules Industriels resulted in a very diverse range including several military vehicles.
The Renault TRM 1200 was the SAVIEM TP3, the 4x4 version of the compact SG series. The TRM 2000 stood for the SAVIEM J-series (later Midliner,) while the TRM 4000 was the well-known and sturdy SM8. Berliet contributed to the programme with the existing GBC 6x6, a truck developed specifically for military purposes that was constantly being further developed and adapted to the requirements of the French army in particular over a long period of time (around 30 years).
The TRM 10000 was such a development. The first documentation dates back to June 1981, but production actually started about three years later. This type built on the existing TRM 9000 but had a longer wheelbase, more powerful engine and improved gearbox.
Renault would deliver the TRM 10000 in various configurations and chassis lengths. The model could also be chosen as a tractor unit. Although the cabin hardly changed from the moment Berliet introduced this type, there were some minor adjustments. For instance, the beams on which the mirrors stood were shaped like a Renault logo and the steering wheel came directly from models for civilian transport.
This fire engine version was found on the Renault Trucks test track in La Valbonne.
