In this column we take a look at unusual Renault products.
Sometimes you'll come across objects from Renault whose function is not immediately clear and whose age cannot be determined immediately. An example of this is this lying tin which is marked on both sides with an R and the name Huiles Renault. It is about 9 centimetres long and about 7 centimetres high. At the top there is a hatch with a round button on it which serves as a handle to slide the tin open. It looks like the gem was originally silver plated, but that layer has largely disappeared as a result of intensive polishing.
The large R in the logo of Huiles Renault (Renault oils) was already used in the thirties, but still occurs after the war. It seems most likely that this was a business gift for the bookkeeper of garages and other customers, who kept his or her pepperclips or other small things in it.
