In this column we take a look at unusual Renault products.
Nowadays, smoking is no longer practised in public buildings or at work. This is forbidden by law. How different was it decades ago when smoking was a social activity that linked people together. In the café, during a romantic dinner, at home and especially at work. In that sense it was also quite normal for companies to give ashtrays to customers as gifts with the logo and name.
For example, it shows a red ashtray of Huiles Renault, the branch of our beloved brand that sold oils and lubricants for a long time, mostly through the dealers.
Now oil and oil products don't seem to be a happy combination with cigars and cigarettes, but of course they didn't have to be used in combination.
The ashtray in question is made of enamelled metal with four recesses for the smokables. Around the R-logo in the middle are two times Huiles Renault in white letters with a black shadow and two times 'Les meilleures'. At the time it was apparently enough to mention that you thought you were the best.
